About UsBell & Howell was founded in 1907 and was in on the beginning of mass communication and information. Bell & Howell was to play an important part in the standardisation of both 35mm and 16mm movie equipment. Information, in its many forms, is the foundation on which Bell & Howell was built and was the leader in film equipment, both professional, educational and amateur, and so it became a pioneer in optical equipment, electronic instrumentation, educational publishing, technical training and micrographics and business equipment. In 1973 Bell & Howell bought out its Australian distributor and soon became the premier Audio Visual Equipment company in Australia. In 1987 a management buyout of the Audio Visual Equipment Division saw the birth of B&H Australia. What started with 5 employees has quickly grown to over 60 with offices Australia wide. The tradition of Bell & Howell’s innovation and service is being carried on in Australia. B&H Australia continues to be Australian owned and operated.
The first Bell & Howell 16mm projector was made in the same year as the first 16mm film. Since then Bell & Howell supplied more of the world’s projectors than any other company.
In 1987 B&H Australia marketed the first combination portable TV/VCR the VS1. This unit quickly became the preferred unit of both Commonwealth and State Governments in Australia. This type of innovation has become the trademark of B&H Australia.
In 1992 Proxima selected B&H Australia to be its Australian distributor and became the leading supplier of the new LCD technology. The LCD panels lead the way in developing multimedia projection for training and presentation solutions. The Proxima DP2800 was the first all in one data/video projector launched in Australia. This development meant that portable projection systems became a reality. Soon the increase in brightness meant that presentations could be presented with the lights on. B&H Australia are the exclusive Australian distributors of Eiki Corporation multimedia projectors. The Eiki Corporation have been in the Audio Visual business for over 55 years.
In 1995 B&H Australia became the first company outside the USA to be presented with the coveted ICIA Dealership of the Year award and B&H Australia are a member of Infocomm International.
In 2000 B&H Australia purchased Electrosonic Systems Australia.
In 2005 B&H received the AMX Award Best Commercial Installation - Monash University.
In 2008 B&H received the AMX Award Best Residential Installation - Qld Residence.
